Despite beauty blogging taking a back seat on our blog, I still like to put my rather extensive assortment of cosmetics to use. Lately I've been thinking how my makeup varies from one city to another. So.... I thought it might be fun/interesting/different to chart my typical "out and about" face paint habits from one city to another:

Paris
MAC Russian Red/ Rouge Bunny Rouge Sheer lipstick in Murmurings. Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua. ADDICTION custom eyeshadow compact. La Rose de Versailles black eyeliner.

Johannesburg.
NARS Orgasm Illuminator. YSL Rouge Volupte Perle #115

Tokyo
Sekkisei BB cream. Nars Copacabana Illuminator. Bobby Brown Concealer. Dejavu Perfecct Liner in Black.
Esprique Blend Dimensional Eyes in A-4.  Suqqu Creamy Glow Lipstick in Saebana. MAC Skinfinish in Candlelight. Shu Uemurs Ultimare Natural Mascara.
Rouge Bunny Rouge eyeshadow in Angelic Cockatiels.  Chanel lipgloss in Gold Shine. Shu Uemura Miracle Cherry Blush Tint.
London
Burberry Soft Satin Lipstick in Bright Plum. Hada-labo BB Cream. Chanel Joues Contraste Powder Blush in Orchid Rose.

Does your travel makeup bag vary as much from one place to another? I think it is quietly telling about how a location can have such an effect on my view of myself and how I feel I need to adjust/dress up/feel comfortable...maybe?

  1. Pretty interesting line up. It's nice that you can almost be au natural in Johannesburg. My makeup routine stays pretty much the same all the time. Makes my life easier.

  2. I really enjoyed this post! It takes an insightful mind to realize the changes we make in our lives and how they are affected by our surroundings. I would love to say that my travel bag becomes as interesting as my surroundings, but alas...I stop far within my comfort zone. Time to branch out perhaps?

  3. I rarely travel so can't answer your question but I love this post, it's fascinating!

  4. Thanks Charlie. I always knew that I felt the need to look more polished in Tokyo but when compared with somewhere like Johannesburg where I seem to want to just glow, it is a bit mad isnt it? Funny thing is, when I am out of Tokyo and in the countryside of Japan - I leave my makeup behind.

  5. I always knew that I was a bit of a chameleon in the sense that I pay such great attention to my surroundings and do my best to immerse myself into them. But this was an eye opener for me too! Thanks for reading Hasini.

  6. Oh this is interesting, I don't have much makeup so I wear the same thing everywhere I go. I guess I have found that I wear more makeup (do the full face foundation thing) when I'm in cities, but probably wear less on countryside roadtrips? I think I do what you do in terms of my dress though. I usually like dressing for the "occasion", like putting on a costume that suits the scene, if you get what I mean.

  8. How detailed and well thought! You'd laugh when I say that when travelling I don't even bring a lipstick! Not a make up person in general but once in a while I like to doll up and scare my husband LOL! Hope you are well and thanks for your encouraging words, you are too kind :) I'm slowly catching up with my favorite blogs :)

  9. When I travel, I usually use a moisturizer, a lip balm, and eventually a tinted moisturizer or BB cream. I love Nars' tinted moisturizer, and dislike foundations in general as I still haven't found a great foundation in all those years. However, I have been looking for a new foundation, and your Chanel's VA foundation could be maybe something for my not-so-young-skin-anymore. Anyway, I do see the connection between Tokyo and a Japanese BB cream, right? :D

  10. Hello Sandra.
When I am travelling I use zero make up but when I reach my destination I TRY to make an effort and for some reason I feel more prone to doing so when I am in Tokyo. Then again, nothing that I use in Tokyo would last a minute in Johannesburg in summer - it would melt off in a moment :) Yes! That is a Japanese BB cream - I use a more moisturising Japanese BB in London :)

  12. fantastic post! my staple is a bold/bright lip with eyeliner but when I was in Portugal for my honeymoon a couple of years a go I definitely wore different make up to what I would back home. I wore burnt orange eyeshadow quite a lot with a natural lip

  13. How interesting that your make-up routine varies from place to place! Mine looks the same almost everywhere I go - and is most similar to your Paris face, interestingly enough ;) I admit that I tend to use a lighter foundation in warmer climates, but beyond that, I stay true to my signature look almost everywhere I go.

  14. It's definitely a case of needs must I suppose? Anything that I use in Tokyo or Paris wont last a moment in the midday summer sun in Jozi for instance. And then in Tokyo, I feel like I need to cover my blemishes and imperfection more than I would in London?
