Worshipblues is crazy about chairs. Chairs are humble everyday objects that bring such comfort to our lives yet not many people take the time to consider their design and creation. Chairs have long been a passion in our home thanks to Hiro so it is no wonder that I found myself quite excited by these petal shaped objects.

The Drop Chair was designed in 1958 by Arne Jacobsen and then produced alongside the iconic "Swan" and "Egg" chairs in very small numbers and exclusively for the Radisson Blu Royal Hotel in Copenhagen. Over 50 years later, The Drop chair has been relaunched by the Republic of Fritz Hansen and is available for chair lovers like me to add to various wish lists. Hiro is less keen on this chair says that he would take a Swan or Egg chair over The Drop any day.

The ABS nylon reinforced plastic chair comes in 6 different colours and the option of having chrome or powder-coated legs. It is also available in leather or textile upholstery (which would be my preference).

As Worshipblues does not support design theft or cheaper replicas, it seems that I have some saving-up to do!

  1. I know your passion for chairs well, and I must say, you always feature the most interesting ones - I've only the seen the drop chairs once before and although I'm intrigued, I can't help but wonder if they are functional. As I write this, I am sitting in my work chair which, as chairs go, is quite uncomfortable, particularly on my lower back, despite the fact that it has a full, upright back, so the triangular shape of the drop chairs, while stunning, makes me wonder how much I'd like to sit in them.

  2. wow those are great looking. Love them in the variety of colors, too.

  3. I'm a chair lover Yasumi, I have a big book of acely designed chairs. I will tweet you a photo of it later. I did design some chairs ones, they're in one of my sketchbooks somewhere. I like the look of these, though the tapered top unsettles me in a way.
