Twinkle, Twinkle, London Lights

The sparkle of a city wakes in the night.

London's midnight gleam is adulterated with dark approaches and to me this really adds to the her appeal.

For while the shiny new buildings are sprightly in their sparkle and the old classics seem to glower in their simmering light, I can't help contemplating the waste of energy involved in this nightly display.

  1. For the first time in a very long time I have the time to go through each of your posts and leave you a little ramble :P

I have a never ending love affair with Canary Wharf. I lived in Greenwich when I was at uni and we were always around the Wharf.

The Wharf is where my legal career began and is therefore my legal home. Nearly everything I have is due to what I've done in CW.

It looks fantastic at night and I love seeing it all lit up, it reminds me of when I was a naive uni student, wondering it would be like to work in one of those buildings..and that's exactly what I'm doing now.

I was talking to my husband the other day and said that the one thing I would have loved to have seen/done would have been to live in the Docklands between 1970-2000 and see how the area changed from docks to the second financial hub of the UK. It must have been amazing to see how the wasteland cleared and these building rose up. The only issue with that is the fact that I wasn't born until the mid 80's..

And re. the nightly waste of lights, I used to think like that but most of the lights that remain on are because people are actually working through the night, my lack of a social life is testament to that!

  2. Beautiful photos! I absolutely love night photography! London is so photogenic.

  3. very beautiful but indeed, lots of energy gets wasted :/

  4. I miss London, I do.
Talking about energy consumption, I try not to think about that when I was enjoying the laser light show in Hong Kong. Now That is major consumption right there

  5. beautiful insouciant London. :)

Thank you for taking the time to leave a note, they are the stuff that keeps us going.
