Almost Entirely Overrated, At Times.

Sometimes I don't want to be myself.

Sometimes I like to take a break from being me.

I think that some people are so obsessed with "being themselves" that they actually end up negating themselves.

I am playful by nature. Mischief is fun!
Sometimes, when I am being introduced to a stranger, I cannot help but pretend to be someone other than me.

I have told people that I am a mango farmer.
...that I am an artist...
that I am on day release.
Have you?

It is not that I am unhappy with who I am.
It's like taking a tiny holiday from me. Just for a moment.
Just for the memory.

I think that even the most "realest" person should be a little "unreal" sometimes.
We shouldn't take ourselves to seriously.
It's absurd.

We all have masks.
Today mine was black and glittery.
The thing is; no matter what charade I play at.
I always wind up letting "me" slip through.
I can't help it.

"man is least himself when he talks in his own person.
give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth"
Oscar Wilde

  2. fabulous outfit! :D I love the skirt and mask. I think everyone has a different side to them. Sometimes I think it's quite romantic to explore different sides we have. :P

Thank you! Dark shadow is still a tad scary for me.

    @ Mint
Thank you my dear. I agree. There is so much pressure on people to be one side of themselves these days. It's sad!

  5. The red lipstick suits you so well!

I think i put on a mask when I'm out and about most of time. People think I'm really quiet and reserved.
But behind closed doors, I can express myself better through sitting on my computer typing :)
It is fun for people to realise that you have more to you than they think ^^
    Love this post! xxx

It's fun sometimes to be someone else and watch people's reaction when you tell them what you do.

  14. we all have many masks! i've got a multitude of identities and love making up things as i go. i suppose that's why i write and why i wanna write millions of novels...**i once told my ex boyfriend i had korean-japanese ancestry, that i knew many famous people, could see ghosts amongst other special powers.

babe, you are so gorgeous here! i'm loving your mask, lashes and red lippie.

  15. I love this mask!!
My other me is Carmen..it was my grandmother's name & I take on some of my favorite traits of her's when I use the name - flirty, outgoing, & fierce. =)
I take on a new name & persona whenever I know this will be the one & only time I will see a person.

  16. Absolutley LOVING the photos! Really beautiful...! The mask reminds me of how much I would love to go to a masquerade ball - haha :p

Sometimes I feel that 'being yourself' doesn't exist. After all, aren't we the combined effort of everyone we have known? It doesn't just come from nowhere, right? I have never understood fully the concept of 'being yourself.'

  17. Oh I love it! It's a lot more tame now but when I was single, I'd do the same thing with people who chatted me up. Sometimes it was just for giggles but most of the time it was for the escape. Won't go into too much detail.

Now I do it to mess with the "sweetie daaaahlings" of the world.

    xx

I AGREE!! You are very wise for a nipper!

    @ ChrissyDee

I could hug you. Nothing gives me more pleasure than ramping through the minds of the "sweetie darlings" esp if they work in advertising!

  19. I don't know that I pretend to be someone else entirely, but my masks seem to relate to more of what I'm willing to show to other people. Some of my interests and loves I keep close to my heart, while others I am perfectly happy to share with everyone! I suppose it's like I compartmentalize myself - I am the same person whether at work, or play, or home, but different aspects are more dominant depending on the situation.

    You are gorgeous <3

  20. obsession with being 'yourself' = pigeonholing to a self-dictated brand. after all, the self is a dynamic evolving entity. ..
love these shots. the skirt is fabulous, so is the mask. .and the whole look!

    following you now

  21. First off, I love the mask! are you off to a Masaian masquerade?
I think inside every one of us, are multiple personalities, it's only fair to let them out to play every now and then.
I question and answer myself in different voices, does this make me quite mad?
I especially have fun messing with people's minds when they find out I'm from, *gasp* Africa! I tell them I hunt kudu for dinner whilst riding on my pet elephant xD

  22. Wise words and food for thought! We indeed should not take ourselves too seriously!

I do love the whole outfit and makeup too. I would like to imagine that you have a huge treasure chest full of outfits to play dress up in. It would be marvellous, and fun!

That D&G lippie that Hiro got you suits you superbly! Love itttt.

I only had used a different persona when my girlfriends and I would go out dancing, lol...we'd all have different names, and sometimes I'd speak with an accent (not like you can really hear at a club anyway)
