August is carnival time in London.

In the run up to the street shaking, ear drum pulverising Nottinghill Carnival,
Hackney does their own little street affair.

As proud Hackney residents we were there with our cameras.
Hiro was responsible for these shots of vibrancy.

The ladies:

The lil 'uns:

The costumes:

The dancing:

The smiles:

I do look forward to the raucous pounding beats of Nottinghill carnival.
The curry goat, jerk chicken, jerk fish, saltfish fritters, ackee and saltfish, fried dumplings.
The plantains, the beef patties, the rice and peas.
The rum punch, the swinging hips, the walls of speakers.
The "puuuuuuuuuuuullllllllllllll up and com agen selectah".

We will be there next week - come say hello if you see us!

  1. I've always wanted to go to Nottinghill Carnival! When I was in school my best friend was in it and she had travel down to it every year. One day I shall venture down and enjoy the fun :)

  10. fabulous! i love parades, yours looks definitely more interesting than the ones we have periodically here in SB. then again, i might have a grudge because it clogs up traffic for days and shuts down streets!
