'Tis the Season for....

Strawberries!
I try to buy local produce because I feel that I ought to support local growers.
British strawberries have been super delicious this year.

Sparkling Elderflower Presse:
Delicate bubbles and a delicate perfumed taste.

More salads than usual:
Hiros shabu, asparagus salad.

Hiro's scallop, asparagus and baby spinach salad.

What do you reach for in June?

  1. I love asparagus season, although it does turn my wee a very odd colour. Am I allowed to talk about wee? That's the thing with having a child, no bodily function remains private.

Those strawberries look glorious too, I do love the seasonal food of summer, even if I wilt like a sad lettuce in the heat.

  2. I love strawberries! It's not QUITE the season for them yet (especially with the random snow we got all of May) but the local ones are looking better and better! I also reach for raspberries with increasing frequency as well!

The salads look fantastic - will need to pick up some asparagus this week!

  4. Gosh, there is something about the summer that says Indulgence with a capital I. Food and a tiny bit of well tasted bubbles are such a temptation for me.

Too bad the dear boyfriend is not too fond of restaurants, otherwise I would be spending even more money testing every item on the menu of a laaaarge variety of restaurants. He he, his unwillingness of restaurant-experimentation keeps me a bit more versatile in my own kitchen (which saves me money that I willingly spend on too many other things)

  8. I like both asparagus and strawberries. Grace - aspapagus, it makes my pee smell funny doesnt effect the colour though. Apparently it doesnt make everyone' pee smell though, maybe we get one thing or the other.
Sorry OC to expand the pee conversation in the middle of a food item.
My favourite thing in June is not a food item though it is Poeny roses. Xxxx

  10. Oooh!! I agree actually. The English strawberries now are so much more distinctly yummy than the other ones that were flown in from portugal and whatnot before! I find myself with a box of Brit strawberries in my basket everytime I end up in the supermarket (which is almost every other day!!)

And Hiro's salads look simply divine!

I had a salad too today! Although the salad leaves were rather old and as a consequence a bit chewy and bitter! It's because the salad section was basically empty due to 1) the nice weather and 2) the world cup!

  16. It's asparagus season in Germany at the moment. So I'm cooking alot with white asparagus these days. I had some local strawberries at the weekend. They were so toothsome. Your salads look very healthy, and I Love baby spinach, too.
